SAN JOSE, Calif. – It was an exchange that wasn’t meant for public consumption, but it happened on a sidewalk for the world to witness. French heavyweight Cheick Kongo stepped out of a van and quickly noticed Bellator 172 opponent Oli Thompson standing a few feet away as the two men waited to enter Thursday’s Bellator 172 media day. Kongo walked straight toward Thompson and had a simple question: “Why did you take the fight?” Thompson saw it precisely the opposite. “I was told, ‘Cheick’s taking the fight,’” Thompson later told MMAjunkie.
