Bellator President Scott Coker today told MMAjunkie that the fight is likely to take place early next year and will headline a major event, though an exact date is still forthcoming. “I think it deserves to be its own card,” Coker said. “We just don’t want to rush it.” Sonnen (28-14-1 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) seemed to be in a hurry to book the fight with the UFC Hall of Famer and Bellator headliner when he announced his contract with the Viacom-owned promotion, saying it was part of the “legends ass-kicking tour” that brought him out of retirement after two years on the shelf.
