It’s been a rough few months for Cody Garbrandt , but the former UFC bantamweight champion still expects to challenge for the flyweight title in his return. Garbrandt (12-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC), who was scheduled to make his 125-pound debut against champ Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 255, was forced to withdraw because of a torn vein in his arm caused by a blood clot. Instead, Figueiredo faced Alex Perez, whom he submitted in the first round. A few weeks after his withdrawal, Garbrandt revealed that he’s been dealing with various other health issues such as vertigo, pneumonia and mental fog, which started when he tested positive for COVID-19 in August. On the road to recovery, Garbrandt is still on medication for his blood clots but is hoping to be fully healthy by the first quarter of 2021.
