LAS VEGAS – Darren Elkins has a theory: “When you stop learning, you’re pretty much done fighting.” Because of that, Elkins said he tries to learn new things and evolve his game on the regular. The way the 37-year-old Elkins fights now, he said, is a lot different than when his MMA career first started when he was coming off state wrestling titles in Indiana. “I enjoy learning new things, working on different things, and just seeing what I can do with myself,” Elkins said at Wednesday’s UFC on ESPN 35 media day. Elkins (26-10 MMA, 16-9 UFC) fights Tristan Connelly (14-7 MMA, 1-1 UFC) on the UFC on ESPN 35 main card Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The main card airs on ESPN and streams on ESPN+ following prelims on ESPN2/ESPN+. Elkins, who’s become known for being a “walking zombie,” as he calls himself, hopes to fight a few more years and wants to “break a few more records” in the UFC’s featherweight division before he hangs up the gloves around the time he turns 40.
