“The Ultimate Fighter 20″ cast Episode No. 12, the regular-season finale, of “The Ultimate Fighter 20: Team Pettis vs. Team Melendez” opens with Carla Esparza and Jessica Penne , who meet in the first semifinal bout later in the episode, discussing the difficulty in overcoming their friendship to fight. Esparza and Penne trained together prior to the show and were both members of Team Pettis throughout the season. Despite the fact they share the gym at the same time, they do their best to keep distance during preparation. With just one win separating her from the final, Penne says she’s not going to let her relationship with Esparza distract her from the goal of winning the inaugural UFC women’s strawweight championship, which goes to the show’s tournament winner.
