Mendes (16-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC) has already challenged for UFC gold twice in his career, but should he defeat Ricardo Lamas (15-3 MMA, 6-1 UFC) on Saturday at UFC Fight Night 63, he’ll be within striking distance of another championship bout. It he does get another shot, Mendes is confident Aldo (25-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) will still hold the belt, just as he has throughout the entire existence of the UFC’s 145-pound class
