Joaquin Buckley When Joaquin Buckley left high school, he was ready to grow up quickly. He had lived with his grandmother for as long as he could remember, and it had been just the two of them since sixth grade, when an existing heart condition took his mother’s life. Athletics, and wrestling in particular, had helped to bring him out of his shell in high school, and he was ready to move on. With a head start from some cash from his mother’s life insurance policy and an interest in martial arts with roots in cartoons and movies from years before, he went to look for a place he might be able to train. The first place he found, after a quick Internet search, ended up becoming his family.
