Roxanne Modafferi fell just short in her opportunity to capture a world championship on her 34th birthday when she lost a split decision to Jennifer Maia in Friday’s Invcita FC 19 headliner, which streamed on UFC Fight Pass at Scottish Rite Temple in Kansas City, Mo. Maia (13-4-1) entered the week as the interim 125-pound champion, but the day before the event, titleholder Barb Honchak was stripped of the belt . Maia became the new titleholder, and the bout with Modefferi (19-13) was promoted to a regular championship contest. With the stakes at a peak, Maia and Modafferi went back-and-forth for five competitive rounds. Maia started strong, winning the opening round with a more effective offensive output
