Filed under: Featured Videos , News , UFC , Videos OTTAWA, Canada – Joanne Calderwood says she’s pleased with her performance against Valerie Letourneau at UFC Fight Night 89. She can’t say the same about referee Jerin Valel, though. After nearly scoring a spinning backfist knockout of Letourneau (8-5 MMA, 3-2 UFC) in the first round, Calderwood (11-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) hurt her opponent again several times in the third frame. Despite Letourneau turning her back and covering up in obvious pain, Valel allowed her to absorb more damage than necessary before mercifully stepping in at the 2:51 mark of Round 3 . Calderwood thought Valel could have done a better job of protecting “Trouble,” but because he didn’t, she said she was forced to inflict more punishment
