Conor McGregor UFC featherweight title challenger Conor McGregor estimates 2,500 Irish fans are headed to Las Vegas for next week’s UFC 189 event. “The number, I believe, was 2,400 to 2,500 from Ireland in particular,” the Irish McGregor (17-2 MMA, 5-0 UFC) told MMAjunkie today during a media call in support of the July 11 pay-per-view event, which takes place at MGM Grand Garden Arena. “But that doesn’t factor the Irish that are living in America and the Irish that are coming in from all other areas of the globe. “But I believe 2,500 specifically from the island of Ireland.” The sizable crowd is, of course, coming to cheer on their countryman, who now fights Chad Mendes (17-2 MMA, 5-0 UFC) for the interim featherweight title after champ Jose Aldo (25-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) was forced to withdraw due to injury. While the absence of Aldo is a huge blow to the PPV card and the UFC, which reportedly spent seven figures to promote the event, McGregor said his fans won’t be asking for refunds
