Conor McGregor It really, really, really would have been nice to see UFC featherweight champ Jose Aldo take on Conor McGregor at Saturday’s UFC 189, but as the Rolling Stones once said, you can’t always get what you want. Particularly, in this case, when spinning back kicks are being thrown. There are a few silver linings to the replacement headliner between McGregor and Chad Mendes, a few of which you’ll read below. But hopefully, one big takeaway from the pay-per-view card is a growing sense of ownership from Aldo in the business of promotion, and a caution that emerges from the almost irreplaceable role a fighter plays in a big show.
