Pat Miletich and Dana White The UFC Hall of Fame is getting a fairly substantial facelift. Officials, who have already selected 12 members to its 12-year-old hall, today announced a “unique four-category system” that will honor inductees in a “well-defined historical context.” The new system kicks off with this year’s four-member class, which will be inducted on July 11 as part of UFC Fan Expo 2015 in Las Vegas. According to the announcement, a member will be inducted in each of the four new categories: Modern era: fighters who made their pro MMA debut in the modern era Pioneers era: fighters who made their pro MMA debut in the pioneers era Contributors: for individuals who made significant contributions outside of active competition Fight wing: commemorating the greatest and most important bouts in the sport’s history The “modern era” is defined as after November 2000,  when the Unified Rules of MMA were first adopted. It also narrowly precedes Zuffa’s (UFC parent company’s) purchase of the promotion. “The UFC Hall of Fame has an important job; it not only celebrates greatness but it helps pass stories of the greatest athletes and fights in UFC history on to the next generation of fight fans,” UFC President Dana White said. “We’re looking forward to announcing the class of 2015 and what is going to be a great induction event on July 11.” According to the announcement, the hall’s current members – Royce Gracie (inducted 2003), Ken Shamrock (2003), Dan Severn (2005), Randy Couture (2006), Mark Coleman (2008), Chuck Liddell (2009), Charles “Mask” Lewis Jr.
