Filed under: Featured Videos , News , UFC , Videos ZAGREB, Croatia – UFC heavyweight Curtis Blaydes had all the credentials to begin an MMA career, but it took a little prodding to get him in the cage. A native of Nowhere, Okla., Blaydes (5-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC), who debuts Sunday against Francis Ngannou (6-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 86, won a state wrestling tournament while competing for De La Salle Institute in Chicago, and as a senior with a 44-0 record was voted the team’s most valuable player. He set a school record for takedowns with 121. Moving on to Harper College in Palatine, Ill., Blaydes distinguished himself by winning the NJCAA title in 2012. He was named an All-American and again a team MVP. It was Blaydes’ dream to represent America in the Olympics.
