LAS VEGAS – Tonight Raphael Assuncao ’s more than 20-month layoff is set to come to an end. Extended injury-riddled hiatuses, of course, are not exactly fun for any fighter. But, for Assuncao, it meant not only a sudden halt in momentum at a crucial point of his career, but also at a time that some of his opponents have been taking the stage to make their own claims for the 135-pound belt.
