After the success of early weigh-ins earlier this month at UFC 199, the promotion is making the process mandatory for Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 89 event. Fighters are now required to step on the scale between 9 a.m. and noon ET (local time) on Friday at Brookstreet Hotel, which hosts the fighters for the FOX Sports 1-televised event at The Arena at TD Place in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. A UFC spokesperson told MMAjunkie the mandatory early weigh-in is a collaboration between the promotion and the Ontario Office of the Athletics Commissioner. A spokesperson for the Ontario commission confirmed the plans and said the early weigh-ins are closed to the public. Fighters will step on the scale for a ceremonial weigh-in at 5 p.m.
