It was inspired by BleacherReport.com writer Mike Chiappetta’s latest column in which he discusses UFC castoffs who’ve signed with Bellator, including former champ Benson Henderson, Josh Thomson, Matt Mitrione and Phil Davis. In the piece, Mitrione recalls a conversation he had with UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta in which the executive allegedly told the veteran heavyweight that the show itself – not the fighters – is the UFC’s real product. (A UFC official told MMAjunkie that’s “not an accurate representation” of the conversation.) But regardless of how the conversation played out, is the central theme – that the UFC brand, not the talent, is the product – actually true
