After 25 professional MMA fights and 22-years of active competition, 34-year-old Chris Cariaso has decided the time is right to embark on his second career, and more importantly, be present in the lives of his young boys. Cariaso’s (17-8 MMA, 7-6 UFC) retirement, announced on Wednesday , comes four months after his last fight, a unanimous decision loss to Sergio Pettis at UFC 192. The fight was Cariaso’s 13th with the UFC and his third consecutive defeat. Cariaso’s other two losses during that stretch came at the hands of Henry Cejudo and flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson . The tug of retirement first pulled at Cariaso shortly before the Pettis fight, but he decided against it at that time.
