With the 2016 Summer Olympics kicking off in Rio de Janeiro, fight fans are once again wondering whether MMA will ever be invited to join the fun. In this week’s Trading Shots, MMAjunkie columnist Ben Fowlkes and retired UFC/WEC fighter Danny Downes discuss whether or not that’s even something we’d really want. * * * * Fowlkes: As I’m sure you’re already aware, Danny, the Olympic Games are upon us once again. Not only is it a great opportunity to read interesting stuff about sports you normally don’t care about , it’s also usually the point when MMA fans look around at this gathering of athletic excellence and wonder, wait a minute, why aren’t we invited? Boxing, judo, taekwondo, wrestling – these are all Olympic events. Karate is slated to be added in 2020.
