UFC featherweight champion  Jose Aldo successfully defended his championship for the seventh time with a unanimous decision victory over  Chad Mendes in the UFC 179 headliner at Rio de Janeiro’s Maracanazinho Gymnasium. The contest marked the first rematch in 145-pound title history after Aldo (25-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) and Mendes (16-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC) first met in January 2012. Aldo won the first meeting by knockout, and once again, he came out the winner, but this time after five hard-fought rounds of action. With the win, Aldo kept the distinction as the UFC’s lone Brazilian champion, but more importantly, he’s still the only featherweight champion in company history
