LAS VEGAS – John Howard snapped a nasty losing skid at UFC 189, outworking Cathal Pendred to take a split decision. The welterweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC 189 event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following additional prelims on UFC Fight Pass and ahead of a main card on pay-per-view. Pendred (17-3-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) threw a flying knee right off the bat but it was easily avoided. Howard (23-11 MMA, 7-6 UFC) then began to hunt for spots to land big power shots in combinations. Pendred locked up a clinch and pushed Howard into the cage but could not hold the position long before Howard circled off and landed a right hand
