LAS VEGAS – In the last round of what was likely to be the last UFC women’s bantamweight title shot she would ever get, Miesha Tate found herself in desperate need of a takedown against champion Holly Holm . Midway through the fifth, she got one, and soon Tate (18-5 MMA, 5-2 UFC) was glued to the back of Holm (10-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC), squeezing a rear-naked choke with everything she had until Holm lost consciousness, and with it her UFC title. The women’s bantamweight title bout was the co-main event of today’s UFC 196 event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. It was a dramatic come-from-behind victory for Tate, and with very time to spare. Though she saw glimmers of dominance when she got Holm to the mat in the second round, she’d spent most of the rest of the fight being frustrated by the tactical and technical superiority of Holm’s striking game.
