LAS VEGAS – As expected, UFC 229 was a smash hit at the box office. At the post-event press conference, UFC President Dana White announced the pay-per-view event drew 20,034 fans and generated a live gate of $17.2 million. The figure is the second-highest box office number for the promotion after UFC 205, which generated a $17.7 million gate at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The common thread between the two events is former two-division Conor McGregor (21-4 MMA, 9-2 UFC), who headlined UFC 205 and became the first two-division champ in UFC history by knocking out Eddie Alvarez.
