If Kamaru Usman beats Colby Covington when the pair finally meet for the UFC welterweight title, “The Nigerian Nightmare” says it will make a lot of people very happy. Usman (15-1 MMA, 10-0 UFC), the UFC’s 170-pound champion, laid out the level of hate he says people have for Covington (15-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC), whose spiky personality and controversial comments have seen him become arguably the most polarizing figure in the UFC today. “I’ve been deleting messages for the past two days from Instagram,” Usman told TMZ Sports . “I’ve just deleted, deleted, deleted messages – thousands of messages on Instagram – of people saying: ‘Bro, you’ve gotta kill this dude.’ It’s not ‘beat him,’ it’s ‘kill this guy,’ ‘kill him for us,’ ‘I want him done worse than Askren was.’ “People have malicious intent for this guy, myself included, and I’m just blessed to be able to go out there and do it.” Usman has been out of action after abdominal surgery, but is looking to return to the cage before the end of the year.
