Mackenzie Dern continued her assent up the strawweight rankings when she faced the returning Nina Nunes. Looking to make it four in a row, Dern faced Nunes on the main card of UFC on ABC 2 in April and it didn’t take long for the jiu-jitsu ace to make a statement. Dern didn’t waste any time trying to get the fight to the mat, rushing in with a flurry and stacking Nunes against the fence. Just over a minute in, Dern was able to get the trip and after some top control time, she transitioned to full mount, before cinching up an armbar and forcing Nunes to tap in Round 1. Dern (11-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) returns to action Saturday when she takes on Marina Rodriguez (14-1-2 MMA, 4-1-2 UFC) in the main event of UFC Fight Night 194, which takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
