Gilbert Burns continued a successful campaign in the welterweight division. The Brazilian fighter picked up a first-round TKO win over former title challenger Demian Maia on Saturday night at UFC on ESPN+ 28. The welterweight bout was the co-main event at Ginasio Nilson Nelson in Brasilia, Brazil. It aired on ESPN and streamed on ESPN+. After getting taken down by Maia (28-10 MMA, 22-10 UFC) and surviving his infamous back take, Burns (18-3 MMA, 11-3 UFC) managed to get the fight back to the feet where he connected with a sharp left hook, sending Maia straight to the canvas
