Dana White MMA legend Wanderlei Silva and the UFC have been embroiled in a lengthy battle both behind the scenes and in the media since the fighter dodged a random Nevada State Athletic Commission drug test ahead of UFC 175. The NSAC subsequently fined Silva (35-12-1 MMA, 6-6 UFC) $70,000 and banned him for life for his actions. Silva and his legal team are planning the challenge the NSAC’s ability to hand down such punishments via a lawsuit, citing the fact that Silva was not a licensed athlete in the state at the time of the drug test. Despite the pending lawsuit against the NSAC, the former PRIDE champion has kept his sights set squarely on the UFC. Silva has released videos detailing his issues with the UFC’s treatment of fighters and, while claiming to be retired, has spoken of competing in different promotions while the UFC has used his contractual situation to shoot down a planned appearance by Silva at a Bellator MMA promotional event. Silva’s latest round of complaints about the situation surrounding his contract came Saturday night, during the UFC’s broadcast of UFC Fight Night 62.
