Long a fan favorite, Nate Diaz again proved himself a legitimate contender at UFC on FOX 17, turning in a scintillating performance in a win over Michael Johnson. As such, he’s making moves on our charts. In the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA lightweight rankings, Diaz cracks the top-5 for the first time, settling in just behind the fast-rising Tony Ferguson and just ahead of a man he beat in 2011, Donald Cerrone. Diaz certainly isn’t in line for a title shot anytime soon, as Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov each have claims to that spot. But he’s certainly in line for a big fight, and the UFC will no doubt look to put something special together.
