Sean O’Malley soundly defeated Marlon Vera this past Saturday in the main event of UFC 299, defending his title with a masterclass performance along with avenging the only loss of his career. It was the first title defense for the 29-year-old champion, who is beginning to assemble a nice resume that includes wins over Petr Yan, a knockout of Aljamain Sterling and now a dominant victory over “Chito.” But plenty of challenges lie ahead for him in one of the most stacked divisions in the UFC, not the least of which could be a next title defense against red-hot Merab Dvalishvili.
