It’s only been a few days since Jared Cannonier reentered the win column, but the speculation has already begun as to what’s next for one of the 185-pound division’s finest. At UFC on ESPN 29 , Cannonier (14-5 MMA, 7-5 UFC) picked up a big win over the durable Kelvin Gastelum . Afterward, Cannonier said he thinks he’s deserving of a title shot next but would also consider competing in a No. 1 contender fight if he was promised a title shot with a win. Although he’s just 1-1 in his most recent two appearances, he’s also an impressive 4-1 in his most recent five. Additionally, he’s one of the few top contenders who has yet to fight UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, who is expected to rematch Robert Whittaker at the beginning of 2022
