UFC 195 featured a “Fight of the Year” candidate in the main event – a bout that is certain to hold up as a contender 12 months from now. Robbie Lawler (27-10 MMA, 12-4 UFC) defended his welterweight title with a somewhat controversial split-decision win over Carlos Condit (30-9 MMA, 7-5 UFC). There wasn’t a ton of buzz about the event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas heading in, but the fans who checked things out on pay-per-view, FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass weren’t disappointed. In addition to the slugfest of a headliner, Stipe Miocic (14-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) earned a likely heavyweight title shot with his 54-second TKO of former champ Andrei Arlovski (25-11 MMA, 14-5 UFC); Dustin Poirier (19-4 MMA, 11-3 UFC) dominated Joseph Duffy (14-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) to upset the last man to beat Conor McGregor; and Michael McDonald (17-3 MMA, 6-2 UFC) returned after more than two years away and looked sensational in a come-from-behind submission win over Masanori Kanehara (25-13-5 MMA, 1-2 UFC).
