For anyone who’s followed this sport for any length of time, the sequence of events following the UFC’s announcement that Chris Camozzi would replace Yoel Romero against Ronaldo Souza at UFC on FOX 15 probably feels like social media deja vu. It also feels like a familiar process with something to teach us about the unique logic of combat sports, even if it’s something we probably should have learned by now, if only through sheer repetition. The way it happened is, first Romero got hurt, knocking him out of a fight with “Jacare” that was apparently too good to be true after all. With time running out, and with Souza still very ready to occupy a pretty important spot and a pretty important network TV fight card, the UFC had to scramble to find a replacement . That’s not easy to do, for a variety of reasons.
