Japan’s all-female Deep Jewels promotion crowned its first 135-pound champion on May 18 at Deep Jewels 4 in Tokyo. Former Strikeforce title challenger Takayo Hashi  stopped promotional star Shizuka Sugiyama  to become the inaugural Deep Jewels middleweight champion. Hashi (15-4-1), who became the final Smackgirl middleweight champion in September 2007 before traveling abroad to compete internationally, reaffirmed that she is still one of Japan’s premier female fighters in the Deep Jewels 4 headliner
