Does it matter? In his book “Fightnomics,” Reed Kuhn insists it does, pointing to statistical evidence that fights are finished at a more frequent rate in the smaller cage. While the UFC’s use of two different cages has been a hot topic over the past several years, it always seems to reach a fever pitch when an event that takes place in a small cage is especially entertaining, such as UFC Fight Night 68, which took place earlier this month in New Orleans. That show included 10 finishes in 12 fights, including seven bouts that ended in the first round. Meanwhile, one week later in Mexico City – and while using a 30-foot cage – seven of 11 fights went to a decision, including a few rather forgettable encounters
