Filed under: Featured Videos , News , UFC , Videos BOSTON – Eddie Alvarez said he’s often “my biggest critic,” and though he said he usually takes a pessimistic view of his performances, he believes he clearly won Sunday’s UFC Fight Night 81 co-headliner. Alvarez (27-4 MMA, 2-1 UFC), a former Bellator lightweight champion, picked up his second straight UFC win after earning a split-decision victory over ex-UFC titleholder Anthony Pettis (18-4 MMA, 5-3 UFC) in the FOX Sports 1-televised bout at Boston’s TD Garden. To assure he doesn’t get too comfortable and content in the cage, Alvarez said he never tells himself he won a specific round, and instead, he relies on his coaches to gauge his performances mid-fight. But after Sunday’s bout, which he won via 29-28, 28-29 and 29-28 scores (most media outlets were split on the result, according to MMADecisions.com ), Alvarez said he was surprised by the split call even though he relied on some takedowns against the cage that stalled the action (watch the Alvarez vs. Pettis video highlights ). “That fight in particular, I went back (after the third round), I assumed I won the fight,” he said
