To call Eddie Alvarez ’s time in ONE Championship the past couple years rocky might be polite. Alvarez’s debut in the promotion in March 2019 was a first-round upset knockout loss to Timofey Nastyukhin. He got back on track with a first-round submission of Eduard Folayang later that year. But after 20 months off in large part due to the pandemic, Alvarez returned in April and thought he had a win over Iuri Lapicus. Instead, he was disqualified for punches to the back of the head . On appeal, Alvarez got that DQ loss overturned to a no contest .
