Frankie Perez Frankie Perez was backstage at Boston’s TD Garden when UFC matchmaker Joe Silva approached and thanked him for taking a short-notice fight against Johny Case – a sendoff probably meant to help him feel better after his third-round TKO loss. Perez had accepted the bout after experiencing two deaths in the family, and while he felt physically there in the gym, he was somewhere else mentally. “I wasn’t ready to fight,” Perez (9-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC), who returns on Sunday to face Sam Stout (20-11-1 MMA, 8-10 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 74, told MMAjunkie.
