After all, the fight that got him the call to return to the company wasn’t even a fight at all – it was three fights, and they came in one night. When Carneiro won the one-night, eight-man Battlegrounds MMA welterweight tournament in October 2014, he beat three fighters in one night. But after his submission win over Mark Munoz at UFC 184, his first fight back with the UFC, it was an injury that has kept him from a chance to build on that momentum. But now that Carneiro (20-9 MMA, 3-3 UFC) is ready to fight Derek Brunson (14-3 MMA, 5-1 UFC) in the UFC Fight Night 83 co-main event on Sunday, that elbow injury is water under the bridge.
