The UFC traveled to Brazil for the fifth time this year with Saturday’s UFC 179 event at Rio de Janeiro’s Maracanazinho Gymnasium. The headliner featured one of the best championship fights in recent memory as UFC featherweight titleholder Jose Aldo  (25-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) successfully defended his belt against top contender Chad Mendes  (16-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC) in a riveting back-and-forth affair. Aldo’s reign as UFC champion dates back to 2011, but no one has pushed him like Mendes did. Aldo overcame the challenge, though, and “Scarface” added yet another win to his incredible resume.
