John Dodson LAS VEGAS – As they are known to do, the flyweights bounced here and there, to and from, covering every square inch of canvas as John Dodson  and Zach Makovsky  both looked for an edge in a closely contested fight. In the end, Dodson (17-6 MMA, 6-1 UFC) did just enough to earn the nod from the judges, defeating Makovsky (19-6 MMA, 3-2 UFC) via unanimous decision victory (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) largely due to his superior pressure, with help from a key takedown. The flyweight bout closed out the preliminary card of today’s UFC 187 event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following additional prelims on UFC Fight Pass and ahead of a main card on pay-per-view.
