Nearly 15 years into his MMA career, Thales Leites isn’t content. He doesn’t want to be just another guy in the UFC’s middleweight division, and even more so than that, he doesn’t want to be a fighter who tastes defeat as much, or perhaps even more often, than victory. That’s kind of where Leites (27-8 MMA, 7-4 UFC) finds himself now, though, ahead of his matchup with Jack Hermansson (16-4 MMA, 3-2 UFC) on Saturday’s UFC 224 card. The former UFC title challenger has alternated wins and losses over his past five fights, and that doesn’t sit particularly well with him. Even at 36 and with three dozen pro fights, Leites said he still has the drive to be one of the top fighters in the world.
