LAS VEGAS – Derrick Lewis ended the fight how he started it: on his feet, throwing bombs at Roy Nelson ’s end. It was the sizable chunk in between that he spent stuck on his back, or else being taken right back down after struggling to get up. But what his offense lacked in longevity it made up for with ferocity, which convinced two of the three judges to hand Lewis (16-4 MMA, 7-2 UFC) the split-decision victory over Nelson (21-13 MMA, 8-9 UFC), much to the dismay of the Vegas crowd. The heavyweight bout was the co-main event of today’s UFC Fight Night 90 event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass.
