Rousimar Palhares The WSOF is taking swift action against embattled welterweight champ Rousimar Palhares  in the wake of his controversial submission over Jake Shields  in this past Saturday’s WSOF 22 headliner. The promotion will strip him of the welterweight belt and suspending him indefinitely, WSOF spokesperson Mike Afromowitz today confirmed to MMAjunkie. At this point, it’s unclear what steps Palhares needs to take in order to lift his suspension. An October bout between onetime title challenger Jon Fitch and Yushin Okami, set for WSOF 24, could decide the next welterweight champion, Afromowitz said, but no formal decisions have been made. Palhares (18-6) submitted Shields (31-8-1) at WSOF 22 with a kimura and continued holding the submission  after Shields tapped and referee Steve Mazzagatti intervened to halt the bout.
